Profile
Gert Dressel is research assistant at the Department of Nursing Science, the Collection of Biographical Records at the University of Vienna and the Sorgenetz association. He studied history and political science in Berlin (West) and Vienna, and in 1997 he received his doctorate with a thesis and a book on “Historical Anthropology.” For nearly 25 years (until 2019), he worked at the Faculty for Interdisciplinary Research and Continuing Education (IFF) at the Vienna campus of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, including at the Institute for Palliative Care and Organizational Ethics.
For many years, Gert Dressel has been the director, collaborator, and consultant for projects and educational programs that are mostly participatory in nature, often involving biographical storytelling (and listening) in storytelling cafés, among other venues, and which aim to contribute to research, dialogue, and encounters to promote better coexistence (e.g., in caring communities) in a diverse society and meaningful communication between science and so-called practice.
